Overview

"I'm sorry. I wanted you to look up to me. I let you down, man. I let you down. You're the best of all of us, Miles. You're on your way. Just keep going."
- Aaron Davis' last words to Miles[src]

Aaron Davis was the uncle of Miles Morales and brother of Jefferson Morales. Aaron operated as a masked criminal known as the Prowler who worked for the Kingpin and had gone up against Spider-Man on multiple ocassions.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

"You know, me and your dad used to do this back in the day."
"Stop lyin'."
"It's true. Then he took on the cop thing, and I don't know..."
―Aaron Davis and Miles Morales[src]

In their youth, Aaron and his brother Jeff were very close and apparently used to tag walls with graffiti. When Jeff started on the path to becoming a law enforcer, he and Aaron drifted apart.

Jeff went on to marry and have a child, Miles Morales, with whom Aaron developed a close bond with. Though estranged from Jeff, the boy visited him often and became like a second father figure to him.

At one point, Aaron became the masked villain and mercenary known as the Prowler who started working as a prominent hit man and main enforcer for the Kingpin. As Prowler, Aaron Davis would became one of the many supervillains that Spider-Man fought in his ten years as a superhero. Sometime later, he started to assist Wilson Fisk in his plan with the super-collider.

Hanging out with Miles[]

"Tomorrow, find that girl. You walk up to her and be like: 'Hey.' "
"You serious, Uncle Aaron?"
"I'm tellin' you, man, it's science."

On Miles' third week at his new school, Miles paid him a visit in his home. Opening with small talk, Aaron asked if he was having girl problems and gave him advice: the shoulder touch, which Miles found ridiculous (but tried anyway the following day). Seeing that the boy needed a pick-me-up, Aaron took him to an abandoned subway terminal beneath Brooklyn — one he knew of from accompanying Fisk to the Super-Collider — and encouraged him to tag the wall with his newest piece. Admiring the piece, Aaron encouraged the boy to keep going.

Death of Spider-Man[]

Last Battle with Spider-Man[]

"Prowler. Man, I was in the middle of something."
Spider-Man to Prowler[src]

The following evening, Prowler is sent by Kingpin to assist Green Goblin in fighting Spider-Man and manages to keep the hero from deactivating the super-collider. After the Green Goblin ended up killed thanks to one of the Super-Collider's tests that ended in its temporary destruction, the Prowler, Kingpin, and Tombstone cornered an injured Spider-Man, Prowler would be ordered by the Kingpin to kill Spider-Man, however before he had the chance to finish him, he would be stopped by Fisk who wanted to hear what Spider-Man wanted to say sometime later he would witness how the hero was then killed by the Kingpin himself.

Chase of Miles Morales[]

Seconds later, they would heard and saw a boy fleeing the scene and Prowler gave chase, under orders from Kingpin to kill him, pursuing the boy on a subway train he nearly runs him over. However, as he was getting on his motorcycle and pursues the boy, who had fortunately hidden himself, this would causing Prowler to drive in the wrong direction.Becoming occupied with hunting the witness, Aaron became unreachable to both Miles and Jeff, who, in a rare occurrence, called him to find out where Miles was.

Collider Crisis[]

Conflict with the Spider-People[]

"If the kid's out there, I'll find him. You know me, sir. I don't ever quit."
―Prowler to Kingpin about finding his target[src]

Coming home the following evening, Aaron felt a presence in his room and eventually realized that his target, the small boy from the night before, was in his apartment and was escaping. He followed him once again but this time allowed some distance between them, making the boy relax enough to think he was no longer being followed and then tracked him to the rest of the Spider-People.

Death[]

During the raid, their group tried to grab the goober; while the others were engaged in battle with the other Spider-People, Aaron followed the boy who was last spotted with the device and was about to kill him before he unmasked himself, revealing him to be Miles. Kingpin saw Aaron's hesitation and ordered him to kill the boy. Aaron silently refused and put Miles' mask back on. While stepping away, Fisk retaliated by shooting him. Miles swung away with Aaron's body and they were followed by his brother, Jeff. Just before he succumbed to his wounds, Aaron apologized to Miles for letting him down and asked him to continue on his current path.

Jeff arrived just as he died and was left with the impression that Spider-Man had killed him. Miles hid, and Jeff mourned over his body.

Legacy[]

"You ever hear of the shoulder touch?"
"What?"
"Hey"
Spider-Man to Kingpin[src]

Later, Jefferson arrives at Miles' school to tell of Aaron's fate while he tries to apologize for his mistakes that he made to Miles and believes that he will not talk to him . However, Miles finally embraces his powers and becomes the new Spider-Man through the words of inspiration of his parents, uncle and Peter B. Parker.

After that, he then helps return the Spider-People to their dimensions, defeats Kingpin by using the shoulder-touch technique Aaron taught him to blast Kingpin with a Venom-Strike, clearing his name, and becomes the new Spider-Man. In addition, Miles and Jefferson spray paint a memorial to Aaron at the police station Jefferson works at, showing that Jefferson has fully forgiven his brother despite not approving of his past.

Aaron's death is featured in the presentation that Miguel gives to Miles about canon events.

Personality[]

"I have an uncle Aaron too. I had. He was a bad guy, called the Prowler. He looked out for me. He did a lot of bad things but, I knew he wanted to be good. He just didn't had the choice but you do."
Miles Morales to Aaron Davis[src]

As an uncle, Aaron was caring, laid-back, and a good friend to Miles, freeing him of any kind of expectations that his parents often put on him. Although he was estranged from his brother, Jeff, they both still have a sense of care for one another.

"You know me, sir. I don't ever quit."
―Prowler to Kingpin[src]

As the Prowler, Aaron was terrifying and one of the most dangerous villains in New York. The Prowler was quick to catch up to and track his target, and acted rather callous and unhesitant. Usually undeterrable once he'd set his eyes on someone, after finding out that the new Spider-Man was his nephew, he refused to kill him. Aaron showed great remorse in death for being a bad example to his nephew and encouraged him to keep doing what was right.
