"My job, being a captain. That doesn't matter anymore. You're the best thing I've ever done."
- George Stacy[src]

George Stacy, formerly known as Captain Stacy, is the former captain of the 19th Precinct of the Police Department of New York and the father of Gwen Stacy. After the emergence of the vigilante known as Spider-Woman, George would see the vigilante as more of a threat than a hero believing that she was interfering with his job. After the death of her daughter's best friend Peter Parker, he drew himself and the PDNY into conflict with the masked vigilante and vowed to bring her to justice.

Upon realizing that the vigilante he had been pursuing for years was his very own daughter, George had a crisis on what to do and ended up attempting to arrest his own daughter, causing her to abandon him for Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Society. When his daughter was sent home, George attempted to reach out to her which finally resulted in Gwen pouring her heart out to her father about all her problems and insecurities. Seeing the pain he had caused his daughter by being captain, he'd resign from his post and would reconcile with her, giving her the watch that had been given to him by Hobie so Gwen could go and rescue Miles Morales.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

At one point, George Stacy married the love of his life Helen Stacy. The couple would have a daughter named Gwendolyn in the Chelsea borough of New York City. Unfortunately for the family, Helen would pass away sometime early in Gwen's childhood resulting in George to have to raise his daughter by himself. George would raise Gwen to uphold the values of justice growing up but the fact he had a busy career and Helen's death would result in Gwen often times not having any parental figures around. He would often have the Parker family who were their neighbors join them for dinner as he was close with the family, the youngest of the family Peter would become friends with Gwen.

George enrolled his daughter at Visions Academy and would support her in the various passions she indulged in such as ballet, gymnastics and her band The Mary Janes. Unbeknownst to him, his daughter would be bitten by a radioactive spider and become the vigilante known as Spider-Woman. George would get to know the vigilante as he would often come in contact with her, even being saved by her on one occasion from a gunshot.

Although he was saved by the vigilante, his critical opinion on her would not change. On the night of his daughter's homecoming dance, George would receive a call to go to the dance as something horrible had happened. Upon arriving, George would find Spider-Woman holding a dead body to which Spider-Woman would quickly swing away. George would realize this was the body of his daughter's best friend Peter, resulting in George's view on Spider-Woman to sour from dislike to pure hatred for what appeared to be a full on murder of his daughter's best friend.

George would conduct a manhunt that would last for at least 2 years on Spider-Woman but it would not be successful in catching her at all. His relationship with his daughter would become more distant as she would isolate herself from everyone else after Peter's death. He'd also have arguments about the Spider-Woman case with her as Gwen appeared to not care about catching Spider-Woman.

Fight at the Guggenheim Museum[]

One day, George would greet his daughter as she arrived home from her band rehearsal only to learn that she had quit. Attempting to converse with his daughter, he'd try to talk about the Spider-Woman case but Gwen was not interested as she didn't think it would bring Peter back. Realizing his words wouldn't change anything, George asked for a hug and was immediately engulfed in his daughter's arms.

Just then, George would receive news on his police radio that the vulture had been spotted at the Guggenheim museum. Bidding his daughter farewell, George drove to the scene of the crime only to be webbed up alongside his coworkers by Spider-Woman. George would manage to break free from the webs and entered the battle but was once more webbed up by Spider-Woman. Once the Vulture had been defeated and the civilians had been saved, George caught a surprised and exhausted Spider-Woman as he demanded her to raise her hands up. Spider-Woman attempted to calm him down by saying she had no more web fluid but it didn't matter to George as he fired a warning shot.

George Stacy has conflict

George struggles to make a choice

Not having any more options, Spider-Woman unmasked herself revealing the face of George's daughter. Gwen tried to explain herself to her father as George stood in shock conflicted on what route he was supposed to take. Retreating into his cop training, George began to read Gwen's miranda rights. Shocked that her own father would try to arrest her after knowing her identity, Gwen would plead for him to stop only for George to be caught in an electric barrier provided by an alternate version of Spider-Man. This version of Spider-Man would toss her a watch and she'd look one last time at her father before leaving into the portal.

Reconciliation with Gwen[]

At some point, Hobie Brown would arrive in Earth-65 and give George a makeshift portal watch to give to his daughter if she ever turned up back home.

One night, George had fallen asleep on the couch. Upon hearing noises in his apartment he'd get up and realize it was his daughter who had finally come back home. Turning on the light he found his hand immediately webbed to the wall as Gwen had suspected him to be holding a gun, only for him to be holding her penguin plush. George attempted to reach out to his daughter by asking where she'd been only for her to sarcastically tell him that she'd been out murdering her friends. George began to walk out not knowing what to do before Gwen confronted him.

Gwen began to give a big speech to her dad, venting out all her frustrations with being Spider-Woman and not being able to keep the people she loves safe. George responded by telling her that he always told her to do it by the book and that he had taken an oath as a police officer to uphold the law. Gwen retaliated at her dad asking her to arrest her if that was the case only for her father to tell her that he had quit. George confessed that being a cop didn't matter to him anymore because he'd realized his daughter was the most important thing he had ever done. Gwen immediately pulled her father into a hug, finally reconciling their broken relationship.

After the hug, George gave his daughter the watch that Hobie had left behind for her. Gwen promised that she'd be back soon and departed into the portal.
