Overview

"This is gonna be good for us, Spider-Man. You and me, we're finally gonna live up to our potential, you'll finally have a villain worth fighting and I WON'T BE JUST A JOKE TO YOU!"
- Spot[src]

Dr. Johnathon Ohnn is a criminal and former Alchemax scientist with wormhole abilities known as Spot. After the destruction of the Super-Collider, Johnathon gained powers to open dimensional holes, causing him to be fired at Alchemax and dedicated himself to becoming Spider-Man's nemesis as revenge, making himself as The Spot. Initially, Spot clumsily failed to villainize until he gained better control of his powers, striking fear into Spider-Man as well as threatening the entire Multiverse.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Working for Alchemax[]

"You heard of Alchemax? I used to-- I used to work there. I was actually considered handsome by scientist standards."
―Spot to Shop Owner[src]

Johnathon Ohnn was a scientist who was working at Alchemax, being a smart and handsome guy (according to him) that was assigned along with Olivia Octavius to oversee the secret super-collider project by Wilson Fisk. After many failed attempts, the collider would work by bringing a spider from another universe. Johnathon along with Olivia would come to the conclusion that this spider could be the same one that gave the superhero Spider-Man his arachnid based powers, deciding to experiment with it while he puts number 42 on the experiment, the universe where it came from. However, the experiment would escape sometime later.

Some time later, Johnathon was one of the scientists who watched someone who appeared to be Spider-Man along with a kid escape from the place, being one of the ones who chased them, however the boy would throw a bagel at him.[1]

Becoming the Spot[]

After the debut of the new Spider-Man during Fight at the Collider, Johnathon came to the conclusion that the spider that had escaped had bitten the boy from earlier giving him his powers. However, after this new Spider-Man destroys the collider, the explosion at the site caused him to remain in the conflict, ending up as a faceless, skinless organic being nicknamed as the Spot.

Due to his condition, he became the talk of everyone's jokes to the point where he couldn't even get a steady job because of his looks. His life was so terrible after those moments that Spot began to hate the new Spider-Man at the same time that he decided to enter the life of crime.[1]

Johnathon Ohnn's Campaign[]

Robbery at the store[]

"I've never robbed anyone before, please don't make this a bad experience for me!"
―Spot to Shop Owner[src]

Spot attempted to rob an ATM in a store, but was engaged in a fight by Spider-Man after the hero asked him if he was a cow or a Dalmatian. He could not steal the ATM due to him not being able to use his black holes correctly. This led to Spot and Spider-Man clashing while going all over the place going in and out of the black holes that Spot was creating. Eventually Spider-Man tied him up, leaving the place as Spot started to free himself from the web.[1]

Duel in Brooklyn[]

Spot quickly returns and Miles notices. Making an excuse to leave, Miles charges at Spot with police officer Jefferson Morales. After a quick fight, Miles and Spot are now fighting at the bottom of the abandoned Alchemax building. Spot begins to explain his past as a scientist who worked at Alchemax, running an examination on the Super-Collider. During the test, a spider from another dimension was transported to Earth-1610 and bit Miles as a result. Spot went on to explain that he was present the night that Miles defeated Kingpin to destroy the Collider, which resulted in his horrible disfigurement, loss of employment, overall his whole life being ruined. Enraged, Spot charges at Miles and Davis vowing to get revenge, before inadvertently kicking himself in the butt through a portal. He falls through another portal on the ground, while claiming that he was Spider-Man's nemesis. He later explores the "Spot dimension" and quickly learns he can travel to any dimension in the multiverse through his portals. After trying a few, he realizes what he could do with the power he has, ultimately yelling, "My holes aren't a curse! They're the answer!" A workman yells at Spot to shut up, and Spot realizes that he has no more portals. He returns to his home to gain more portals.

Becoming Spider-Man's Nemesis[]

Gaining New Powers[]

While Gwen Stacy was talking to Miles Morales, Spot tries an experiment to gain more portals and make himself more powerful. He uses a mini-collider, and sticks his finger into it, slightly worried. His plan works, and he transports himself back to his web of portals, and damages the apartment he conducted his experiment in. The police have no idea what happened, and as they stare blankly at the apartment, Spot leaps across dimensions, trying to find a universe with a collider, finally landing in Mumbattan, where Indian Spider-Man resides.

Fight in Mumbattan[]

Spot battles Gwen across the city. She is joined by Miles, who followed her without her knowledge through the portal. He engages the local Spider-Man , along with Miles and Gwen. But he clearly makes his grudge known to only one Spider-Man; Miles. Spot effortlessly makes his way to the Alchemax facility and removes all the employees there through his portals. He also activates the energy barrier to keep the Spider-people from interfering with his agenda. Still determined to prove that he's not merely a "villain of the week", Spot quickly initiates the Collider sequence, due to his own knowledge as a former scientist himself and the operation of the sequence. Despite the best efforts of all four Spider-people, Spot manages to absorb the dark matter from the Collider, making him much more powerful and earning him the name 'the Abyss'.

Revenge against Spider-Man[]

The Collider explodes, sending the Spider-people flying off. Spot puts a horrifying vision in Miles' head, where all members of the Spider-Society are lying dead and he is nigh-unstoppable. He brings chaos to Earth-1610 with his reality-warping powers, which will result in the death of Jefferson Morales, who attempts to save a little girl from falling debris. Miles confusingly asked what he just saw, as Spot coldly replies it was their impending future. Now a seemingly powerful, horrendous abomination of dark matter, Spot promises his nemesis that he will destroy everything and everyone he holds dear. He teleports away, which causes the building to collapse, not before tauntingly telling Spider-Man that he'll see him back home.

Return to Earth-1610[]

Later, Spot soon arrives back to Earth-1610, menacing as ever. He levitates into the air and across Brooklyn, as he begins his multiversal reign of terror.

Personality[]

Initially, Johnathon Ohnn was an Alchemax scientist, considering himself handsome. Because he worked for the Kingpin, Johnathon was tasked with overseeing the Super-Collider and was willing to take down Spider-Man and the new Spider-Man, who threw a bagel at him, causing him to resent him. After the destruction of the Super-Collider, Johnathon received powers, causing his skin to turn white with black holes around it, becoming the mockery of everyone and being rejected by his parents, causing him to lose confidence in himself, deciding to become the Spider-Man's nemesis to exact revenge.

Due to the lack of evil, Johnathon took the name "The Spot", trying to be a shoplifter, where he finally faced Spider-Man, however, he was considered "villain of the week" as they fought and Spot was defeated in his first match by not knowing how to use his powers correctly. When he returned to Alchemax in his duel, Spot recalled his grudge against Spider-Man, reminding him and revealing his origin story, being willing to kill him and Officer Jefferson Morales, though he disappeared through a portal when he kicked himself. After discovering his ability to travel to more universes, Spot's resentment grew, believing himself to be very powerful and he ended up traveling to Mumbattan, where he confronted Spider-Man and his alternate selves, facing them without jokes, although briefly showing charm for the Chai tea, which angers Indian Spider-Man, and saying to Spider-Woman at her cow joke, "Wow. That the best you got?"

When the Spider-Mans tried to claim that he was respected and not mocked, Spot entered the alternate Super-Collider to prove he was a villain to match, gaining a new set of powers, becoming cold and ruthless. He then showed Spider-Man the grim future where he would "take everything from [Spider-Man]," otherwise saying that he would destroy all that Spider-Man cares about on Earth-1610, before disappearing back into his universe to exact his revenge.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Dark Matter Physiology: After being caught in the Super-Collider's explosion, Johnathon Ohnn was exposed to a vortex of dark matter kept contained within a protective vial, which then bonded with his body, bleaching his skin white, wiping his entire body of distinct features, and adorning his figure with black spots, or "holes".
    • Portal Creation: The spots of dark matter lining Ohnn's body act as dimensional portals, which can transport not only himself through space-time, but also inanimate objects and other people, projecting a separate "hole" onto his destination across an unknown maximum distance. Ohnn can use his spots to deflect and redirect incoming attacks, even repelling physical blows from a singular "hole", launch targets through warps into other locations, and even teleport and project parts of his body across short distances, allowing him to attack targets without entering melee range. Additionally, Ohnn can remove the spots from his body and physically launch them across space, allowing him to a form a barrier of "holes" that deflect incoming attacks and objects.
      • Dimensional Travel: Through his "holes", Ohnn can even travel to alternate dimensions and realities without the risk of suffering any "glitching" side effect. Additionally, by entering the spots on his body, he can access a pocket reality within his own body, which he can use to move into other dimensions with ease.

Abilities[]

  • Genius-Level Intellect: He was most likely a genius, being able to create a mini-collider, and knowing what would happen if he did.

Trivia[]

  • Spot's line, "The power of the multiverse, in the palm of my hand" is a reference to Doctor Octopus' line, "The power of the sun, in the palm of my hand" from Spider-Man 2 (2004), and was originally intended to be said by Doctor Octopus in an alternate scene for Into the Spider-Verse where Olivia would have willingly jumped into the multiverse portal rather than being hit by a truck.[2]
  • According to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Spot was actually the person Miles hit with a bagel in Into the Spider-Verse.
  • Spot's backstory in the movie is similar to his backstory in the comics and 90s Spider-Man the Animated Series, having been a scientist that attempted to create inter dimensional portals for the Kingpin only for it to change his body.
