Production
Development
A third and final film was confirmed when Lord and Miller revealed in December 2021 that Across the Spider-Verse was being split into two films. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two) was expected at that point to be released in 2023. In April 2022, it was retitled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. In response to a claim by an artist on Across, who spoke to Vulture on condition of anonymity, that it would not be possible to release Beyond as scheduled, Lord and Miller stated that the production would "take the time necessary" for the film to be completed to their standards. The film was delayed indefinitely in late July 2023, in part due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
Pre-production for Beyond the Spider-Verse began after the split of Across the Spider-Verse into two movies and continued while Across was being worked on. Full production began after production on Across was complete, but was halted as the voice cast could not record their lines during the SAG-AFTRA strike. Work resumed after the strike was ended.
The movie will introduce more Gwen variants, more of Spider-Punk's dimension, and use elements from Disney's Parent Trap elements for the relationship between Miles Morales and Miles G. Morales. During an interview with Deadline, Lord and Miller described the film as having a "satisfying conclusion" and it will go deeper into the emotional bonds between Miles, Gwen, Peter, his parents, Hobie and others. The film will deal with Miles taking the feelings of betrayal and struggling to find a way to turn them into something affirmative. [5]
On December 10, Chris Miller stated that the film is currently "knee-deep" in production.
On March 6, the official Spider-Verse social media accounts teased the fight between Miles and his alternate self with a post showcasing the character's logos.[6]
On June 14, composer Daniel Pemberton confirmed that the Spider-Verse team is "beavering away" at the film and is aiming to avoid creating a film that disappoints in the way Godfather III did.[7]
On August 9, Pavitr Prabhakar voice actor Karan Soni confirmed his return as the character in the sequel and stated that he would be recording voice lines in "a few months". He also stated the film was "deep in production".[8]
Music
It is unknown who is doing the soundtrack for the film however Pemberton will be returning for the score.[9]
Trivia
- The decision to split the sequel into two films came about during the writing process and was announced after the first look for the film was shown on December 4, 2021. Initially simply announced as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two) with a tentative 2023 release,[10] its eventual title was announced in April 2022 along with what was initially the final release date.[11][12]
- The Spot has been confirmed as both the previous film and this one's main villains.
- Even though there is possibility this movie isn't gonna be the end of the franchise, the producers confirmed that this movie is going to be the last instalment of the Spider-Verse Saga with Miles Morales as a protagonist.[13]
- Takuya Yamashiro and Leopardon who were originally supposed to appear in Across the Spider-Verse before it was split into two movies will most likely appear in this movie.
- According to the producers this film will have the appearance of alternate versions of Gwen Stacy.[14]
- The initial release date was March 29th, 2024 but would be booted off that date on July 28th due to the SAG Aftra Writers Strike going on at that point in time as well as progress of the film not being far along enough to ensure completion in time at that point in time. The film is currently delayed indefinitely but is being worked on.
- The WGA Writer's strike ended on September 27th, 2023, while the SAG-AFTRA strike ended on November 9th, 2023 with work on the film resuming after both concluded.
