"I don't know what it is you have to do. But I think this thing is supposed to help."

Project Bootleg, also known as the Web-Watch, is a device created by Hobie Brown to travel between the different dimensions. The watch was given to Gwen Stacy and is used by all the members of the Spider-Gang. Web-Watch is the bootleg version of Miguel O'Hara's Multiversal Gizmo.

History[]

Creation[]

While on the way to see Miguel with Gwen, Miles, and Jessica Drew, Hobie steals bits and bobs from the inventory of other Spider-Society members and Miguel's laboratory as part of his secret plan to go against the society that vows to stick to the canon. Hobie refuses to tell anyone about his plan, choosing only to pass off his stealing as damaging the lab to Miles.

After getting enough pieces to finish the watch, Hobie confidently removes his Multiversal Gizmo before leaving to finish building his bootleg version. Hobie makes his first visit to Gwen's universe to have a good talk with George Stacy and to leave his finish product in George's hands so that it can be given to Gwen safely.

Capabilities[]

  • Dimensional Travel: The Web-Watch is capable of sending its user through alternate dimensions and realities at will without the danger of suffering a glitch effect.

Trivia[]

  • In concept art, this device is called the bootleg watch.
  • Although it is never stated how many bootleg watches were made. It would make sense that each Spider-Gang member is provided one to at least combat the glitch affect. Interestingly, Pavitr Prabhakar can be seen wearing something that resembles a watch right above the bracelet of his left arm at the end of Across the Spider-Verse.
